Protect CNX personnel, critical infrastructure, property and the public against criminal acts and the threat of terrorism and sabotage to preserve the safety, operational efficiency, and brand of CNX.
CNX’s Values and Behaviors guide everything we do as the CNX Police Department (CNXPD). The CNXPD is one team, and our Special Agents work closely with local, state, and federal agencies to play a vital role in our communities. Our Story
Railroad police are certified state law enforcement officers with investigative and arrest powers both on and off railroad property in most states. They also have interstate law enforcement authority pursuant to federal law.
HISTORY:
The railroad police force dates to the mid-1800s, when the number of U.S. Marshals was insufficient to police America's growing rail network. Members were called Pinkertons, named after their originator, Alan Pinkerton. Today, each Class I railroad employs Special Agents across the country to protect America’s rail network.

We consistently choose to do what is right – even if it’s not what is easy. CNX is a dynamic, unique, and diverse police department which is composed of members from across the United States. Each member of the team brings a tremendous amount of policing skills and knowledge. Members are fully sworn P.O.S.T certified police officers and have been granted Federal Interstate Authority as defined in Title 49, USC section 28101. This authority allows each member of the police team to conduct law enforcement activities in states where the railroad operates.
